Great walking too

Oh, that's right, and the orienteering was fantastic!

Assynt, North Yorkshire and other highlights

We're home! Some highlights of the trip (click photos to enlarge):

The road to Applecross really is that crazy.

We found the ugliest waterfall ever marked on a map - Victoria Falls. Victoria is probably rolling in her grave.

Assynt is perfect troll country.

We found a tiny castle on a rocky coast. Andy conquered it.

I saw my first PUFFIN!

We spent one night in a bog. ONLY one. That may have had something to do with the temper tantrum I threw the next morning.

However, the insect repellant went back onto the shelf, unused, when we got home.

Dinosaurs! Fossils! Jet! Vampires! Pirates! Captain Cook! Monks! Whitby has it all.

Dear Diary - Lindisfarne trip - SO AMAZING!
(Kowtowing to Kate Beaton.)

More coming soon, and what about those BOOKS I read while we were away? Despite all the excitement I did have time to read a book or two...

Boxing Day Special

This was our third Yorkshire peak in as many years - now the traditional Boxing Day hike, though this year's was on the 29th instead.

As you can see, we had spectacular weather, gorgeous views and deep fluffy snow!

Whernside is now officially my favorite of the three (Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent being the other two).
