4 years on...

I've never done blog-anniversary posts, but I just realised that 4 years is a long time! A long time to keep doing something as nerdy as book blogging, anyway!

I posted my first book review on 1 April 2007, before I left Oregon to come to Scotland. That was Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott. Not exactly a typical read for me. I don't read much nonfiction, but I did enjoy this one, I recall.

(I've averaged 27 books a year... and reviewed all but 8 of them. I just passed my 100th review earlier this year.)

I'm not really sure what prompted me to start writing about the books I read. Probably just having finished graduate school had something to do with it.

I've stuck with the Goodreads format for reviews, and use their 5-star system. I don't think the stars really add a whole lot of value to a book review, but I find the system useful as a measure of how much I enjoyed the book. It's certainly NOT a measure of the book's value or quality.

My killer year for reading and book blogging was 2010, when I entered a whole slew of reading challenges and began interacting with other bloggers more regularly. It was really fun! And took up an inordinate amount of my spare time!

Long time readers have probably noticed that I'm posting and commenting less than last year. This year, book blogging is slightly less of a priority, as I work on a career change, run a craft group, and do some travelling.

I hope to keep blogging, however intermittently, while I'm visiting friends and family in the States this month and next month. I'll probably start missing Scotland and going on about the things I can't get over there:

Just the thing to dip my haggis-flavoured potato crisps into!

Cheers, and here's to a fifth year. Thanks for hanging on with me!

Wow, 4 years! That is a long time in blogging land. Congratulations - I hope you'll be blogging for a long time to come.

I love, love, love mushy peas. Can't get them here, but we always bring some back from Tesco when we go to England. And treat it like gold.

Have a good time in the US, Marieke!

  2. Hi Judith, Thanks! I can't believe it's been that long. I agree, mushy peas are great. Have you tried making your own from dried? (I haven't but I'd imagine they travel easier)

I'm a little late to the party here, but congrats on your 4-year blogiversary! That's definitely something to celebrate. Enjoy your time off & the company of your family! :-)

  4. Thanks Emily! Time flies! I don't think my holiday blog posts will be as nice as yours.
