Outrageously numerical

I'm dizzy with happiness. My first visit to the dentist in three years confirmed that I have zero cavities, though one small spot needs extra attention. The outrageously friendly dentist encouraged me to come back in six months. I certainly will.

My bill for the checkup and four x-rays was £6.84. I wanted to tell them to keep the change. (My dear American readers, you're allowed to cry now.)

Oh joy! The library was still open on my way home. To add to the beauty of the day, I discovered that the limit for number of library books I can check out at a time is NOT, in fact, two.

I have spent the past three years laboring under the illusion that I could have only two books out at a time. It turns out that the two-book limit is for 'temporary' library users -- when I first arrived in Oban, somebody probably told me this number but didn't care to find out whether I was here permanently.

As a non-temporary library user, I am allowed to take home twelve books at a time.

Librarians, take heed! Your best patrons may be voluntarily and resentfully curtailing their own library use because of stupid rules like this!

Anyway, I am ecstatic. So much so that I now have three library books out at once.

... It feels so indulgent.

In other news, I've knitted a pair of fingerless mittens and am planning my next move. By which I mean knitting project.

This weekend I hope to post a review or two and continue listening to 84 Charing Cross Road on audio. Also reading Alice Munro's The View from Castle Rock. What are your weekend plans?

  1. Congratulations on all counts! I think our library limit is 25, which means I load up on as many books as I possibly can carry and then get awkward checking them out trying not to drop them as I waddle up to the counter.

I LOVE your gloves. Where is the pattern from? Or did you design them? Lyndsey

Wow, that must have felt like you won a prize: 12 books instead of two. I like the gloves. It's actually almost time to wear them. I already wore my leather gloves one evening here in the Netherlands (I was on my bicycle).

  5. J*, I'm so envious about your weekend!

Lyndsey, I got the pattern off Ravelry.com -- it's actually a Martha Stewart pattern! Here's the link.

Leeswammes, Yes, it's like getting away with murder!

Frl. Irene, Thanks, I will go see what it's about.

  6. I thought only two books was quite stingy! I think its about 8 at our library which I have never taken advantage off, normally I get one or two out.
