Wool on impulse -- what's new

It's a record -- I went to Oxfam and several other charity shops and made it home without a single book. However, three balls of wool.

You win some, you lose some.

Friday's craft night was great fun, and heavy on the knitting this time. In progress: a sock (nearly finished by me), a baby cardigan, a horizontal-striped vest (in homespun, hand-dyed wool), a scarf, and a crocheted blanket square... and some felting and embroidery.

This takes me back to the old dilemma: how to read and knit at the same time. This time I've gone straight to the expert -- Sandy at You've GOTTA read this! reviews tons of audio books and I asked her for some suggestions as to how to find good, affordable audio books.

The library is the first and most obvious answer. I know our library has some audio books, but very few that I want to read. The library system for our area is really pretty deprived. So... I went online.

With Sandy's recommendation, I decided to subscribe to Audible.co.uk. You can download one book a month for a monthly fee. I thought I'd give it a try and see if I feel it's worth the money (it's not much).

One advantage so far -- nearly instant gratification. I downloaded Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street in a few minutes and soon had it playing as I did the dishes.

More lovely knitting projects and audio book accompaniment are in my future!!

Andy's socks are finally done and I'm weaving in the loose ends. My next knitting project is either going to be a cotton tank-top or a pair of fingerless gloves.

Book-wise, I've finished Going to See the Elephant by Rodes Fishburne and have to admit, I found it a wee bit disappointing.

ALSO!! I've been reminded that Dewey's 24-hour read-a-thon is coming up on Saturday 9 October. Reading, snacks, and staying up late. Who's in with me?!
