I did a British office vocabulary quiz a while ago and I thought it might be time for another quirky Britishisms quiz. This is especially for you non-British readers. Maybe in the future I'll do a 'Life in the U.S.' quiz to try to stump the Brits.Meanwhile, I will have to trust that you will all answer as best you can without using any search engines
Email your answers by Sunday, 18 July by 8:00 pm (British summer time), noon for you west-coasters. Don't leave them in the comments because then everyone will SEE!
Ready, steady, good luck!

PRIZES (Scottish paraphernalia) will be sent to the three highest scoring participants. Points are awarded arbitrarily according to my own arcane system, which is a secret.
Thank you for joining in the fun and I can't wait to see what you come up with!
It's kind of terrifying that I'm moving over there in September and know nothing. They're going to kick me out, I know it :P
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were moving to the UK. They won't kick you out! Just don't try to take leftover food home with you from a restaurant -- they'll laugh or look at you strangely.
ReplyDeleteOk I admit it, I'm British but couldn't resist your quiz anyway. Got them all though apart from number 4 (ABE?) though I'm not too sure you are going to allow 'it stinks' as a correct answer for number 1.
ReplyDeletePetty - You can still email me your answers if you want! I won't say anything about your answer to number 1 except you're wrong! :)
ReplyDeleteyeesh I'm a Brit and I only know the answers to about half... and the rest kinda vague.
ReplyDeleteI better brush up on my Britishisms!
Though I'm from southa England and so maybe the quiz is more geared to those in the north. Where they say 'bath' and we say 'barrth' or where I'm from more like 'barf'.
Fiona, True, the questions have a Scottish slant, since this is the only place I've lived in the UK. Do your best!
ReplyDeleteI think I would know about 2 of those LOL Im from the west country. Do they call dinner tea up there in the north cos I remember they did in somerset but they call it dinner in london (random off topic I know)
ReplyDeleteJessica - give it a whirl! Yes, they do say 'tea' for dinner up here, like 'What did you have for tea' or 'I've just come from my tea.'
