Last October when I had only just encountered the wider book-blogging community (when I still thought blogging was a solitary activity), the 24-hour Read-A-Thon came along. This was someone's crazy idea to read for 24 hours straight, or as much of it as possible, and blog along the way. I thought I'd observe from the sidelines and come back again in six months. There were mini-challenges, cheerleaders, prizes and snacks. Oh, and BOOKS.
And it's here! Saturday April 10th! I'm very excited! I'm definitely joining in this time around.
Now I will have a reason to curl up on the couch in a down sleeping bag (yes, it's still freezing here) with a stack of feminist comic books, gender bending sci-fi, and maybe a novella or two.
Nothing heavy, nothing too difficult. Variety to keep things interesting. And pictures!
These are the books I have waiting in the wings...
The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel
Fledgling by Octavia Butler
Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
And books I'd like to get my hands on between now and then, JUST IN CASE...
Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Are you joining in the Read-A-Thon? What do you recommend for reading material?
I really want to join it, but I have two book groups meeting and a big assignment due the next day. Foiled again! Well, maybe I'll do a mini-readathon. I'm looking forward to all the postings.
ReplyDeleteKarenlibrarian, Too bad for other commitments! But if they're bookish then I suppose you can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteArgh, I sort of really want to, and it would really help me on my Orange longlist marathon, but the idea of not sleeping is horrendous. I like my sleep! There's really no reason why I *shouldn't* do it though... hmm. Maybe!
ReplyDeleteSleeping is allowed! I know because I read the FAQ. I will have to go for a walk at some point too...
ReplyDeleteI sure hope to join this one! I'm still debating, and I won't know until next week, what my weekend will look like!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of your cheerleaders and wanted to wish you good luck! I'll be reading next time, but may sneak in a few hours of reading this time, for solidarity's sake, ha ha.
