The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Henry and Clare are going right up there to the top of the list of 'All Time Greatest Lovers', real and fictional. This is a love story with a capital L. As in, the kind of love that comes around once a century, a love that surpasses time or death, love that breaks your heart and makes life worth living.

It's a truly fantastic read. Henry jumps around involuntarily through time and space while Clare waits for him to reappear in her life, whether she is 6, 18 or 20 while he is 32, 40 or 28. One's past could be the other's future in any given scene.

Their relationship is spread out over a lifetime of random encounters, yet pivots powerfully around a present moment that is always beautiful and tragic. True love can only be tragic; time moves on.

  1. I too, adored the book. The big question now is whether or not I will go see the movie, which can only be disappointing, but us so very tempting. (Actually, it's not a big question because I live in rural West Virgina, nowhere near a theater and have a newborn, but it is an interesting hypothetical question).

  2. I'd heard too many rave reviews from my pals beforehand so my expectations were possible too high. I found it to be a mediocre love story with a lot of daft poorly concieved time-travel bits thrown in to try to make it less dull.
