Spring

What does spring hold for us?

Today, hail, wind, sun, clouds, blue sky and rain, repeat.

Yesterday, kitchen cabinets emptied, things rearranged, laundry hung up, rugs shook out.

Saturday, I scrubbed mold off the following surfaces: bathroom ceiling, shower tiles, bathroom walls, bedroom window well, bedroom walls, bedroom wardrobe, inside the kitchen cabinets, sides of refrigerator, sinks.

Mold grows here inside our spice jars. The paprika turned green and webby. The dried chilies bloomed with spores. I chucked the lot.

Mold grows in our clothes if we don't wear them enough. It's an environment that encourages minimalism.

Out of doors, everything is putting on a growth spurt. Soon the roadside trash will be invisible behind curtains of stinging nettles and the dandelions will devour the dog shit.

I have to watch out for the clutching arms of blackberries on my way to work.

  1. Ah, March in Scotland. It IS crazy! I moved to Scotland in August and when local gardeners told me proudly how quickly the weather changes, I looked at them as if they were crazy (I was from Colorado after all, I had seen 90 to snow and back in a week). Autumn in Scotland was all the same, just very gradually colder (and very dramatically darker).

Then came March. Hail, snow, sunshine, gales, rain and calm warmth all in a day, almost every day. Crazy crazy. Enjoy!
