Glen Nevis

This was the view up Glen Nevis when Andy and I hiked up the valley on Sunday. The weather was just starting to clear--the beginning of a week of sunny, clear, frosty days.

We grabbed the chance to get out on a dry day, regardless of how cold it was. The walk was invigorating and spectacular.

Glen Nevis winds up around the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. We could just see a snowy ridge peeking out from the clouds from time to time. We only saw a handful of other people.

The most exciting bit of the hike was on the way back when I forded the river (and my boots got soaked) instead of re-crossing the scary cable bridge made of a steel cable for your feet and one cable for each hand.

I made it across fine the first time, but the excitement was a bit too much for me and I refused to go back that way. It doesn't look scary when you see other people crossing it, but it was very weird to be standing on a slippery narrow cable high above a freezing river. (Not really my thing!)

  1. Spectacular! Scotland has lots of great sights that are totally rare to me in my part of the world. (whenever it's not raining, I suppose)
