A Scottish Thanksgiving

After two days of baking, stewing, pureeing and roasting, we had more food than we could fit in the refrigerator. Luckily we had a cold snap yesterday, and we put the juice and beer outside in a bucket to chill.

We had the most people so far in our flat at one time, fourteen people of various nationalities: Tim, Cat, Ellie and Charlotte (American); Kim, Vicky, Ellie, Fiona and Doreen (British); Robert (German); Sheila (South African); Isaac (Australian); plus Andy and myself.

For dinner, we started with parsnip soup and toasted rolls. Then the main course was turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, rainbow veggie casserole, Jeff's millet, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce (Sheila's homemade) and nut roast that Ellie made. Dessert was an amazing chocolate orange cake that Doreen brought, vegan sweet potato pie, and cranberry jello salad.

I had invited everyone to bring books to exchange. We created a large pile of books in one corner of the room, and eager readers gathered around to choose the ones they wanted. We had some good laughs talking about books and former book club experiences... then the conversation moved on to toilet stories (there were a few empty bottles of wine on the table by this point).

Everyone left with cake, cookies, books, and full bellies. Then it was time to call home and wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving before they had even started eating.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!
